What I do.

I am a leader, artist, engineer, manager, and tinkerer.

As Technical Director and Production Manager I organize, direct, balance, and oversee an artist’s vision from its initial design to the final curtain.

Currently Co-Technical Director at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Why I do it.

Theatre is important to me.

There’s a reason I’m not building cabinets, designing industrial machinery, or operating a tower crane.  Though the materials, skill sets, and techniques may be similar and applicable the product is different.

Working in the theater means more than just building interesting stuff. Theater is a unique experience, an exchange of feelings between the audience and the live performer. In helping to define that relationship through my responsibilities to the physical world of the play – I’m part of the show.

I feel the pressure to get the job done and done right in time for opening. And when the audience shoots to their feet in applause at the final curtain, they are not only celebrating the experience they just shared with the actors but are celebrating my work as well. That feeling is electric. You don’t find that in other industries. I know – I’ve looked.

Who I am.

I believe that people should always maintain a sense of humor.

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Good work takes time, attention, and a drive to succeed. My work is at its best when I’m challenged and work hard.

I want to be the one people turn to when they need something done well.
